How to use MP3 Gain

Download MP3Gain

1 . Open MP3 Gain - Set "Target 'Normal' Volume from 90.0 (low) to 95.0 (high) This varies between computers due to all the variable settings in the radio broadcast software and the music style.

I have found setting at 92.0db to be a good starting point

2 . Click on "Add Folder

3 . Select the folder you want to work on

4 . Click on "Track Gain"

5 . The volume on all the files in the folder will be adjusted automatically.

files in RED signify that the original recording was overdriven and the sound was "clipped". This is done purposely with Rock and other music to get the loudest sound where distortion is not an issue. Other music may be clipped when the original recording volume was set too high. Bringing the volume down with MP3Gain helps but cannot repair the original distortion and clipping

6 . When MP3Gain is finished, select "Clear All" - then Exit

When all your sound files have been "normalized" you can then play them with the broadcast software
  1. Set the Volume Levels for Deck A, Deck B, and Voice FX to "default" or "zero" by clicking the small button next to the volume control slides

  2. As a song is being played - and broadcast through the encoders - watch the level in the meter in the "Encoders" block - the signal should only occasionally hit in the "Red" area with the peaks mainly being in the "Yellow"

  3. If the meters show too much "Red", lower the volume at Deck A (if that is where the song is playing) --- If the meter stays in the "Green" only and occasionally in the "Yellow", raise the volume level in the Deck.

The main focus here is to keep your signal from "pegging Red" which will badly distort your music on the receiving end - and keeping it high enough where it can be heard without the listeners having to change their volume.

Using MP3Gain on ALL your audio files will assure that what your listeners hear will always be at the same volume
